Overall Rating: 4.2 out of 5 Stars
My experience of Gringo's was quite enjoyable. They has a very friendly staff. The food was great, and free salsa and chips don't hurt either. The price is a little high, but Gringo's is worthy of date night with the Mrs.
While it’s not authentic Chinese, it is good American Chinese. I sampled low-, middle- and high-priced items from the menu and was pleased with all three. There’s one thing that always seems to be true about Chinese restaurants – you never leave still hungry. At Fong's, the service was friendly, the atmosphere inviting.
Food Quality: 4 Stars
I was stunned with the quality of food offered here. We started off with complimentary chips and salsa. I ordered the carnitas, which is pieces of pork in some spices, along with mexican rice, beans smothered with white chesse, and warm tortillas. When the waiter brought out our food, I was taken back by how much there was. There was no way I was going to finish it all. The pork was amazing - it soaked in all the spices. Overall, it tasted great.
Price: 3 Stars
This was one of the only disappointing aspects of my visit to Gringo's. I asked the waiter for his recommendation and he referred me to a plate called "carnitas." This was a $13 plate. He also recommended their famous lemonade, which was quite delightful and refillable, but $3 for lemonade seemed a little steep. My date ordered a chicken burrito. Its cost was $8. For what we got, I thought the food was a tad bit over-priced.
Customer Service: 5 Stars
We received great service from the start. The hostess welcomed us with a smile. Our waiter was one of my favorite parts about Gringo's. He was very helpful in offering recommendations and always made sure that our drinks were full. He brought our food to us in a timely manner, especially for a sit-down restaurant. I'm not one who gives big tips, but this guy earned it, having gone above and beyond what is expected from a waiter.
Cleanliness: 5 Stars
Gringo's was very clean and neat for a Mexican restaurant. Usually these kind of places are notorious for being a little on the sketchy side, but Gringo's had clean tables and floors.
Atmosphere: 4 Stars
When I first walked in to Gringo's, I was happy that it kept with a Mexican vibe. Having spent two years in Guatemala, I know my fair share of latin music. The music that was playing was one of the most famous groups in all of Mexico - Mana. The decor in the restaurant also kept up with the feel. Pictures and frames of Mexican-themed decor gave it a great little Mexican town feel. One of the be things I saw during the night was the girl carrying around a sombrero. If you have a sombrero in the building, that means there is a party going on.
