Overall Rating: 3.6 out of 5 Stars
Growing up in Southern Idaho, I often heard stories about the one-pound hamburger in a small town close to Rexburg. When I first walked into this place, I knew it was different. The big burgers, fries and ice cream will take you back about 20 years to a fun, slower lifestyle. I really loved the food here. It's a Big Jud's tradition for customers to attempt to eat the Big Jud burger, which is made with a one-pound patty (see the picture on the Home page). They even offer the double and triple Big Jud, for the big eaters. Even if you don't try to eat the big burger, Big Jud's is still a must-see place.
Food Quality: 3 Stars
I'm not the biggest fan of hamburger from restaurants. This one was comparable to homemade burgers - nothing spectacular, just a good overall burger. Having been born and raised in Idaho, I have eaten my fair share of french fries. These were somewhat small, and too greasy for me. It was nice that all the food was freshly made.
Price: 4 Stars
The price is quite reasonable for the amount of you get. The one-pound burger is $15, which is more than enough to feed two people. I would recommend ordering water over pop if you are trying to eat the whole thing.
Customer Service: 4 Stars
When you come to a small town like Rexburg, you can expect to have exceptional service. Big Jud's makes no exception. The staff there is fun and is always happy to serve.
Cleanliness: 2 Stars
Usually when I go to Big Jud's, I try to avoid looking in the back where they make the food. It's not good on your eyes to see all that grease. The waitresses do their best to keep the tables clean, but that can be a difficult task with the type of food they serve.
Atmosphere: 5 Stars
The best part of this restaurant is the atmosphere. When you first walk it, be sure to look over the Hall of Fame Eaters (those who ate the Big Jud or larger). There are plenty of LDS missionaries, students trying to prove their worth, and guys (and girls) trying to show off to their dates. The wall may even convince you to step up to the plate and try to polish off the monster burger so that you can join the company of big eaters.
