Colophon Page

Web Standards

This web site has been built with adherence to current standards for XHTML 1.0 Transitional. All pages will validate using XHTML 1.0. The CSS will also validate. This site also follows the conventional web naming rules: all names are lower case, have no spaces or special characters, and are short and meaningful.

Usability

Usability is an important part of this design. The site has been built following usability guidelines from Steve Krug's book "Don't Make Me Think." The site has a design of hierarchy, page names and link names are simple and obvious, things that look clickable are clickable, and the content is simple and concise. To increase usability and accessibility, all pages are built with a similar layout, the content is properly nested, all pictures have appropriate ALT text, there is a link to the home page from every page.

SEO

To increase search engine optimization, I have taken time to create meaningful titles for my pages, including the information in the heading tags. I have also tried to use well thought out alternate text for pictures. These are a few techniques I have incorporated to increase SEO.

ROI

By creating a site that follows web standards, conforms to proper usability guidelines, and has been formatted to increase search engine optimization, my site should increase its profitability. Proper SEO techniques will put my site higher on search engine results, which will bring more people to my site. With correct usability techniques and web standards, people will be able to navigate and use my site correctly, and will encourage them to come back, further increasing profitability.
